Operation Angelica by Juliene Lloyd

31/7/2014

Operation Angelica features Elizabeth Ashton, a promising FBI agent with a bright future. That is until her fiancé  is killed by a South American drug lord.
When the government won't help her, she takes matters into her own hands.
Certain that she will eventually be found out, she is surprised when a consulting firm offers her a job rather than turning her in.
Sent on a mission to Colombia, Elizabeth must use all her skills to survive and rescue a group of hostages.

Operation Angelica was an intriguing read with a great central character. Elizabeth is a strong, resilient woman who has suffered a terrible loss. You can understand her motivations for taking out the drug lord.
Each character is well written with a strong back story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to fans of spy novels and  action adventure.

Spark:Kindled Book One by Ginger Malacko

28/7/2014

Nathan Christopher Coville has always been certain of two things: that he is the most popular kid to have ever lived in the town of Temple Hills, and that he deserves to be. But that was before he was plunged head first into a gorge. Now that he’s freshly dead, Nathan isn’t certain of anything except that the afterlife isn’t so heavenly. Instead of waking amidst trumpets and sunlit clouds, Nathan finds himself deep underground, in the middle of an invisible world of guardian angels. With an impossible mission, a head angel with an unnerving secret, and a host of demons who want nothing more than to destroy him, fame and glory seem forever just out of Nathan’s reach. And to top it all, he is somehow thrown in with the most notorious misfits of the guardian training center. It’s a far cry from his easy mortal life, and Nathan finds himself homesick for his friends, his family, and his fan club. But the greatest challenge of all comes when Nathan accidentally discovers a dastardly demon plot to take over his hometown. And since the angel authorities refuse to believe that a demon army is secretly amassing under their noses, the fate of thousands of people is suddenly resting on Nathan’s inexperienced shoulders.

Last Light Falling by J.E. Plemons

7/7/2014

Picture
Last Light Falling features fifteen year old twins Arena and Gabriel, who live in a dystopian America. Set in 2053, the country is falling apart. War rages in the country, but a more Biblical fight is about to start with Arena and Gabriel at the heart of it.
Arena is a strong, likeable protagonist. Circumstances have made her a fighter, which she is going to need to be.
I think the relationship between the twins was well written and believable. I think what makes a dystopian story work is that it plays on real fears and on things that could happen. A great young adult read.
