Q & A with Lea Kirk

1) Tell us about your book

Made for Her is part of S. E. Smith’s The Worlds of Magic, New Mexico. Magic is a small town of paranormal beings in the New Mexico desert. When Mikhail and Donalda (Donnie) first encounter each other, Donnie is on the run from her former boss—the same man responsible for having Mikhail turned into a vampire centuries before. Mikhail would definitely like to drop a load of cold revenge all over the guy’s head. If helping the human woman, Donnie, thwarts his nemesis, he’s all in. What neither of them expect is to discover their own brand of magic along the way.

2) What makes your vampires unique?

Mikhail doesn’t sparkle? Okay, okay, that’s not the answer you’re looking for, is it? The most unique thing about Mikhail is the way he’s held onto his humanity. He is a “made” vampire, and it was against his will. Because of this, he lost what he held most dear—his family. It’d be easy for him to give in to the darkness of his inner vampire, but he manages to keep himself above that.

3) If you could have a vampire ability what would it be and why?

There are two abilities I’d love to have. First, vampire eyesight. I’ve worn corrective lenses since the age of four, and I’d love to be able to see everything without fumbling for my glasses, or worrying about changing my contacts. The second would be vampire speed. I’m the mom of five kids, and vampire speed would come in very handy.

4) Is your book standalone or part or a series?

Both! <g> Technically, its storyline is a standalone, but the book is part of The Worlds of Magic, New Mexico (which has many stories about vampires by other authors, as well as shifters, dragons, aliens, etc. Some characters make cameo appearances in other authors’ books, too!)
So far, Made for Her is the only story I’ve written for the collection, but I do have another spin-off story percolating in my head, I just haven’t had time to get to it. (See question 5 for further explanation.) My next story will feature a different couple, but Donnie and Mikhail may make an appearance. <wink>

5) What is next for you?

I’m pretty sure there’s no short answer to this question, but I’ll try.

I primarily write sci-fi romance, and since 2016 my focus has been on my Prophecy series. (Blue aliens, giant green aliens, humans, an Earth invasion, the Atlantis myth, preternatural abilities, soul mates, and of course, an ancient alien prophecy are featured. Oh, and romances with happily ever afters attached.)

In this universe, I’m currently revising a short story for release in Sept., editing a novella, and writing book four (which is a time travel!) Hopefully by the end of next year there will be three more shiny new additions to the Prophecy series. None will include vampires, but I hope that won’t stop you from checking them out!

And this is why my next Magic, NM story hasn’t been done yet!
